Ciudadano Presidente Obama:

Llega usted a nuestro país en tiempos aciagos cuando la mayoría de nuestro pueblo vive agobiado por la pobreza, el desempleo y la inseguridad.
Estos males, Presidente Obama, han sido causados por un grupo que seapoderó del Estado para imponer una política de pillaje a costa delsufrimiento de muchos y en detrimento del interés público.
Usted no debiera ignorar que la oligarquía imperante en México se conformóal amparo de las falacias del modelo neoliberal y a partir de que unPresidente ilegítimo, Carlos Salinas (1988-1994), entregó a sus allegados,–especuladores, traficantes de influencias y políticos corruptos–,empresas públicas, bancos y otros bienes del pueblo y de la nación. Alpaso del tiempo, estos personajes no sólo siguieron acumulando riquezas,como no se ha visto en ninguna otra parte del mundo, sino que tambiénfueron adquiriendo poder político hasta convertirse en una élite dominanteque está colocada por encima de las instituciones constitucionales.Además, son dueños o controlan los principales medios de comunicación y fueron los que promovieron el fraude electoral de 2006 para impedir unverdadero cambio e imponer a un pelele en la Presidencia de la República.
Como es obvio, a esta mafia no le ha importado el destino del país y muchomenos el bienestar de la gente. Durante más de dos décadas, México hasido uno de los países con menor crecimiento en el mundo; desde 1983 sedesmanteló la política de fomento económico y de generación de empleos; sedejó sin apoyo a los productores del campo, y se descuidó de maneradeliberada el sector energético para arruinarlo y justificar laprivatización de la electricidad y de la industria petrolera. El saldo delvandalismo y de esta absurda política es realmente lamentable: nuestroextraordinario pueblo ha sido condenado a la sobrevivencia o al destierro.A los jóvenes se les ha cancelado el futuro pues no tienen oportunidadesde trabajo ni de estudios. Ya no hay movilidad social y ahora para saliradelante sólo han dejado el camino de la migración y el de las conductasantisociales. Millones de mexicanos viven hacinados, abandonados, enfermosy sin seguridad social.
Presidente Obama: el hecho de hacer de su conocimiento esta tragedia noimplica de ninguna manera pedir su intervención en un asunto que habremosde resolver los mexicanos en pleno ejercicio de nuestras libertades ysoberanía. Por fortuna existe en nuestro país un movimiento ciudadanofuerte, pacífico y decidido a derrotar a la oligarquía para devolverle elpoder al pueblo y hacer valer la democracia.
Si nos dirigimos a usted es para exponerle que el fenómeno migratorio y lainseguridad se han originado por causas políticas, económicas y sociales,y es un error enfrentarlos sólo con medidas coercitivas, como si setratara de un pleito entre policías y bandidos.
Los muros en la frontera, las redadas, la militarización y las amenazas demano dura son recursos propagandísticos que en el mejor de los casosatienden los efectos pero no resuelven el problema. La solución de fondo,la más humana y eficaz pasa necesariamente por combatir la corrupción y lapobreza; es decir, la tranquilidad, la seguridad y la paz social sonfrutos de la justicia.
Asimismo, nuestro movimiento no permitirá ninguna “acción conjunta” queconduzca a la instauración de un estado de sitio y a la violaciónsistemática de los derechos humanos. Consideramos que la relación entrenuestros países debe sustentarse en el respeto mutuo y en la cooperaciónpara el desarrollo.
Ciudadano Presidente Obama: ojalá usted tenga la virtud y la suerte quetuvo en circunstancias parecidas ese gran estadista, el PresidenteFranklin Delano Roosevelt, quien supo devolverle la esperanza a su puebloy aplicó una política de buena vecindad con los países de América Latina yel Caribe, y en particular con México.Bienvenido a nuestro país.

Letter from the Legitimate President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, to the president of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama Mexico City, April 15th 2009,

Mr.President Obama:

As you arrive to our country in ill-fated times, when the majority of our people live overwhelmed by poverty, unemployment and insecurity.

All These circumnstances, President Obama, have been caused by a group that seized the State to impose a policy of looting at the cost of the suffering of many and to the detriment of the public interest.
You should not ignore that the prevailing oligarchy in Mexico was created under the protection of the deceits of the neoliberal model and since an illegal President, Carlos Salinas (1988-1994), gave to its close friends, - speculators, influence peddlers and corrupt politicians-, public companies, banks and other goods property of the people and the nation. As time went by, these individuals not only continued to accumulate wealth, in a way not previously seen in any other part of the world, but they also began to get hold of political power until they became a dominant elite which is placed above constitutional institutions. In addition, they are owners or they control the most important media outlets and they were those who promoted the electoral fraud of 2006 to prevent a real change and to impose a dummy in the Presidency of the Republic. Evidently, this Mafia has not concerned itself with the destiny of the country, and even less with the well-being of the people. For more than two decades, Mexico has been one of the countries with the smallest growth in the world; since 1983 the policy of economic promotion and creation of jobs was dismantled; agrarian producers were left without support, and the energy sector was deliberately neglected to ruin it, and to justify the privatization of the electricity and oil industries. The balance of vandalism and of this absurd policy is really regrettable: our extraordinary people have been condemned to either survival or exile. The young people have had their future cancelled since they don’t have either a job or an opportunity for education. There is no longer social mobility and now to get ahead they have only the ways of migration and antisocial behavior left. Millions of Mexicans live overcrowded, forgotten, sick and without social security.
President Obama, the fact that we inform you of this tragedy does not imply in any way a request for your intervention. This is a matter that will be solved by Mexicans, in full exercise of our liberties and sovereignty. Fortunately, a strong and peaceful citizen movement exists in our country, and we are determined to defeat the oligarchy so that we can give back the power to the people and to wield democracy.
If we address you is with the purpose of exposing that the migratory phenomenon and insecurity have been originated by political, economic and social causes, and it is an error to face them with coercitive measures only, as if it was clash between cops and robbers.
The border fences and "wall", the raids, the militarization and the threats of using a “strong hand” are propagandistic resources that in the best of cases take care of the effects but never solve the problem. The fundamental solution, the most human and the most effective necessarily happens to fight corruption and poverty; that is to say: tranquillity, security and social peace are the fruits of justice. Moreover, our movement will not allow any “joint action” that leads to the imposition of a state of siege and to the systematic violation of human rights. We consider that the relation between our countries must be sustained under mutual respect cooperation towards development.
Citizen President Obama: hopefully you have the virtue and luck that the great statesman, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt once had; who knew how to give back hope to his people and applied a policy of good vicinity with the Latin America and the Caribbean countries, and in particular with Mexico, had under similar circumstances.
